HISTORICAL
BACKGROUND
GHERZI
EASTERN LIMITED was established in May 1960 as a joint venture public
limited company between the Wadia Group of Companies (Bombay Dyeing
Group), one of Indias leading business houses and Gherzi Organisation,
Zurich (Switzerland), a consultancy consortium of international
repute, to provide consultancy services in the field of textile
industry with 20 nos. of staff and small office area in Mumbai.
Since then, GHERZI has become from a small consultancy firm to a
conglomerate in India and diversified its services in the field
of Transportation / Highways, Bridges / Flyovers, Environment, Townships,
Housing, Urban development, Water and Waste Water Engineering, Tourism,
Hotels, Industrial projects and other infrastructural projects.
GHERZI has reached every part of India with Head office at Mumbai
and regional offices at Delhi, Calcutta, Chennai, Bangalore, Pune
and Guwahati with large office area. Apart from the regional offices
GHERZI has associates in all the major cities. The company has,
through its unique combination of engineering and architectural
excellence, innovative planning and value engineering established
itself as a leader in many of the above areas.
GHERZIs, infrastructure consultancy services cover the interface
between technology and society. Infrastructure consultancy in turn
operates in three distinct areas - namely Transportation / Highways,
Urban Development and Water & waste water. The services offered
by GHERZI typically feature Techno-economic Feasibility Studies,
Preliminary Project Report (PPR) and Detailed Project Report (DPR),
Project Management and Construction Supervision.

All these activities have been categorised into various departments
within the companys organisational structure.
GHERZI has successfully adopted the joint venture and consortium
approach to bid for infrastructural and turnkey projects in India
and overseas. In 1998, GHERZI bagged largest ever consultancy package
of 220 Km Highway for 4-Laning funded by World Bank. Both Gherzi
Eastern and Gherzi Organisation (Zurich) have used their technological
strengths to select appropriate companies to form consortia, which
are fully equipped to execute the projects. The consortium approach
offers enormous advantages to the customer in the form of making
available, under one roof, all the services required for successful
completion of the project.
GHERZI boasts of a highly qualified and professional staff including
over 220 experts from various disciplines like management, engineering,
architecture, urban planning, sociological, environmental and public
health engineering as also finance, legal and organisational studies.
The company can therefore offer, under one roof, professional services
in all the fields.
GHERZI has been able to retain some of the best experts of the country
in their respective fields, which has given it an extra edge as
each of these individual has more than two decades of experience
in similar projects in India and abroad.

GHERZI, in fact, was Indias first company to provide organised,
comprehensive consultancy and has initiated, planned and executed
several new projects besides undertaking rationalisation of existing
operations and technologies. The company has, in technical collaboration
with Gherzi Organisation, Zurich, undertaken several projects covering
techno-economic feasibility studies, planning, market survey, logistics,
bench marking, reorganisation, technology up-gradation and rehabilitation
in various parts of the world.
GHERZI has to its credit successful completion of more than 1200
project assignments of wide and varied complexity and magnitude.
